Apexsupplydirects Blog: Brakes and Exhaust Notes

Apexsupplydirects writes these notes from the workshop floor in Brisbane, so the brake and exhaust advice comes from parts we have fitted and measured ourselves.

Two things people ask us every week

Nothing here is written for search engines. Both articles started as a phone call that deserved a longer answer, so we wrote it down once instead of explaining it forty times.

Brake rotor being measured for wear

Brake Rotor Wear Signs Every Driver Should Know

Scoring, a lip on the outer edge and a blue tint each mean something different, and only one of them can wait a fortnight. We go through the four signs that actually tell you something and the ones people worry about for no reason.

What we do between articles

Two services, both done in house

The articles come out of the work, not the other way around. These are the two jobs that keep the bays busy.

Brake caliper and rotor during an overhaul

Brake System Overhaul

Pads, rotors, fluid and caliper service as one job, with rotor thickness measured before anything is ordered. Bed-in run and road test before the car goes back to you.

What is involved

Before you buy

Three habits that save you money

Not articles, just quick notes. The kind of thing we would tell you at the counter.

Check the VIN, not the badge

A mid-year running change can turn a pad that fits a March build into one that does not fit a September build. Same model name, different part number.

Measure before you order rotors

Rotor thickness decides whether machining is legal or pointless. A pair of calipers costs less than a wasted Saturday and a courier fee.

Listen at highway speed, not idle

A system that sounds great in the driveway can drone at 100 km/h. If you do a lot of highway driving, ask how it behaves at cruise before you pay.

Wondering what any of this costs to sort out? The full list is on the price page, and there is more about the people writing these notes on the about page.

Got a question worth an article?

Send it through. If it is something more people will want to know, it becomes the next post. If it is just your car, we will answer it directly, which is usually faster anyway.
